Comeback Medvedev Claims First Championship in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces
A resurgent the Russian player won his initial championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is Medvedev's initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt since that period of that year.
The win also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one different tournaments.
"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
His defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had caused observers to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.
But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an better serve.
He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The pair exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.
Moutet saved four early chances in a close deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
