Government Official States MoD Looking at Security Risk from Vehicles from China, with Staff Advised to Refrain from Secret Talk in Cars.

A defense minister has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is actively investigating the possible threats associated with Chinese vehicles, while staff have been instructed to refrain from talking about classified information in any cars.

Security Advice for MoD Staff

In a recently aired appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to talk about classified material while riding in China-made vehicles.

He explained that the MoD is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, however noted that security is a concern in every modern vehicles.

We have a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is not to plug MoD technology into their car, not to have conversations at a classified classification in any car, because of the increasing risks of surveillance that are present in every single automobile, to only have those secret talks in secure locations. That’s a wise and sensible thing for everyone worried about security.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using every Chinese vehicles, the minister responded: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Wider Defence Context

This revelation follows claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to disable buses and bring disruption to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship has been directing lasers at RAF pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

This wider defence situation underscores the importance of robust measures and caution in all areas of official operations, including vehicle usage to communication habits.
