Toto Wolff is engaged in advanced talks to offload a portion of his shareholding in the Mercedes F1 outfit.

The deal values the Mercedes team at £4.6bn – an unprecedented figure for an F1 team – following McLaren was appraised at £3.5 billion in an adjustment to corporate structure last September.

The Austrian executive, who holds one-third of Mercedes F1, plans to divest a shareholding approximately five percent.

Wolff, aged 53 would stay on as team boss and chief executive officer should the deal proceed.

Shareholder Structure

Remaining partners in the team are Mercedes and industrial group Ineos, who both hold a third of the company.

A Mercedes spokesperson stated: "We will be making no official statement on this. The governance of the team will remain unaltered, and all three partners are dedicated to the ongoing success of Mercedes-Benz in Formula One."

Valuation Increase

The deal signifies a substantial rise in value of Mercedes F1 after Ineos Group acquired its share for £208 million in 2022.

The rise demonstrates the expansion in market values of Formula 1 outfits recently as a consequence of the growing popularity of the sport around the world.

This was also seen in the success of the Formula 1 film featuring Hollywood star Brad Pitt, which was released last summer and earned more than $630m (£458m) at the box office.

It is the actor's top-grossing movie and the highest-earning sports film ever released.

Current Standings

Mercedes are runner-up in the team standings, behind McLaren, with three Grands Prix remaining this season.

Mercedes' primary racer George Russell has won 2 of the 21 races this year and is in fourth place in the drivers' championship after McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

Mercedes won a record eight straight team titles and seven driver championships, six won by Lewis Hamilton and one for Nico Rosberg, between 2014 to 2021.
